Getting Started with Microsoft Word

Getting started:

  • First, open Microsoft Word by clicking on the program icon in your start menu or desktop.


  • Choose 'New' from the option and then choose 'blank document' to create a new document.


  • You will see a blank document on your screen. This is where you can type, format, and edit your text.


  • To start typing, click anywhere in the blank document and begin typing.

 

Basic formatting:

  • To make your text bold, highlight the text you want to bold and click the "Bold" button in the toolbar at the top of the screen from the 'home' tab.


  • To make your text italic, highlight the text you want to italicize and click the "Italic" button in the toolbar.



  • To underline your text, highlight the text you want to underline and click the "Underline" button in the toolbar.



  • To change the font of your text, highlight the text you want to change and use the "Font" dropdown menu in the toolbar to select a different font.


 

Paragraph formatting:

  • To change the alignment of your paragraph, use the "Align" buttons in the toolbar to align your text to the left, right, or center of the page.


  • To add bullet points to your paragraph, click the "Bullets" button in the toolbar and type your list.


  • To add a numbered list to your paragraph, click the "Numbering" button in the toolbar and type your list.


 

Working with tables:

  • To create a table, click the "Table" button in the toolbar and select the number of rows and columns you want in your table.


  • To add text to a cell in your table, click inside the cell and type your text.



  • To delete a row or column in your table, right-click on the row or column and select "Delete."

 

Saving and printing:

  • To save your document, click the "File" menu in the top-left corner of the screen and select "Save As." Choose a location to save your document and click "Save."




  • To print your document, click the "File" menu and select "Print." Select your printing options and click "Print."
